Upcoming Shows

Coming up next is a feature at the incredible Coburg Poetry Workshop on March 18th, followed by a return to the Art Bar on March 21st. I’ll finish off the month at Queen’s University’s The Grad Club, featuring alongside Krystle Mullin on Friday March 26th. Next is a feature at Grouch on a Couch, (details tba) in support of Jeff Cottrill’s one man show on April 11. Things are quiet until May 20th, when I’ll be launching my first full length collection of poetry, entitled The Cartographer’s Skin. I’ll spend the spring touring Ontario, so please contact me if you are looking to book features at your reading series (or know of one that might be a good fit).  I’ll be at the Vancouver Youth Poetry Slam on the fourth Monday in July, and plan to spend a bit of time on the west coast traveling and visiting cohorts.. Fall 2010 includes stints at the Kingston Writers Festival, Words Alive Literary Festival and hosting workshops at the Canadian Festival of Spoken Word. More details to come, stay tuned…

I’ll be featuring at Word Jam (Free Times Cafe) along with the newly renovated TPS Team on October 11th… Also helping to launch Kate Marshall Flaherty’s new collection at Hot Sauced Words on the 14th…, likely a performance at the Saturday October 17th’s TPS Slam. Then a feature at Plasticine Poetry (one of my favorite reading series) on October 18th…

Very excited to be a part of the Luminato Festival on June 7th, 13th & 14th…more details forthcoming…

On July 24th & 25th, I’ll be performing at Toronto Harbourfront’s Canadian Voices SlamIt’s at the Brigantine Room in the Harbourfront Centre. 10:30 pm doors, 11 pm performance. Til 12:30am..

As part of Four Women, the TPS Slam team of which I am a part, will be featuring at the Eden Mills Festival on September 20th.  More team gigs in the works, specifically a few theatre shows over the next two months. Please check out our facebook page if you would like to be in the loop…We’ll also be hosting some performance classes in and around the Toronto area over July and August, if you are interested in polishing your stage style. All details will be posted here, on the fb page, and on the TPS website…

As of now I’m slated to do some quick touring down to northeastern states in the early teens of August. Definitely get in touch if you know of a series and/or venue that needs a little poetry to round things out.. 🙂

I’ll be finishing my summer with a feature at the Words Aloud slam up in Durham. That part of the world has been very good to me, and I am thrilled to get back up there and share some poetry…

    Hey Lara,
It looks like you’ve got a lot going on this summer. That’s so exciting! Anyway, it’ll be wonderful to hear more of your writing at the finals. I look forward to talking more with you then. Again, thank you for your kindness and encouragement. Hope you’re doing well 🙂

    • Julie!

Thanks for the lovely message; it was great to chat the other night. Unfortunately, I’ve decided to drop out of TPS Finals, in lieu of promoting my upcoming book this summer. You can hear more of my new work at The Grouch Fundraiser on April 11, or at Hot Sauced Words on May 20 (my publisher runs the series, and is going to use that as a launch for the book). I hope your writing is going well!!!

      All the best, Lara

Ooh I’m very excited for you Lara! I’m sure the upcoming year has many good experiences in store for you, for us both. Thank you for the invite. It sounds like a lot of fun and I hope to make it out.

  3. Hi Lara
I just found you here and I’m very excited about your book.
Congratulations – Hope to see you soon!

  4. Hi Lara,
I coordinate Literary Affairs at Lakefield College School. Portia Leggat who was one of the organizers of the Kingston WritersFest (and incidentally whose daughter attends LCS and is in my English class!) said that your workshop was fantastic. I SO wanted to bring some of our students to your workshop but 1) it was sold out (congratulations!) and 2) we had just started classes and it was too late to get School approval to take kids on a field trip. I’m wondering, hoping, that you would be open to coming to LCS (we’re about 2 hours north-east of Toronto) and doing a workshop with our kids. I love your work and I know that our kids would love what you do with poetry. You make it LIVE. Friday evenings (between 6:30 – 8:00), Wednesday evenings (between 6:30 – 8:00) and Saturday afternoons are the best workshop times for our kids. Could you please let me know your availability this fall/winter/spring. I would love to bring in other poets, so if you have suggestions about having other poets come with you, let me know. I look forward to hearing from you!
